Accessibility statement

How accessible this website is and how to get help.

Last updated: 1 November 2026

This accessibility statement applies to the Eastern Paediatric Epilepsy Network (EPEN) website at epen-uk.com. It does not cover the websites of other organisations we link to or our members’ workspace on the FutureNHS Collaboration Platform.

Using this website

We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts using your browser or device settings
  • zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate the whole website using just a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to the website using a screen reader

We have also made the text as simple as possible to understand, especially on pages for families.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

  • our PDF documents may not be fully accessible to screen reader software, so each one is also published as a web page
  • the interactive map on the About page is provided by Google Maps and may be hard to use with a keyboard or screen reader, so the page also lists all our hospitals
  • some documents and websites we link to belong to other organisations, and we cannot control how accessible they are

Feedback and contact information

If you need information on this website in a different format, such as an accessible PDF, large print or easy read, email [email protected]. We will consider your request and reply within 10 working days.

Reporting accessibility problems with this website

We are always looking to improve the accessibility of this website. If you find any problems not listed on this page, or think we are not meeting accessibility requirements, email [email protected].

Enforcement procedure

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is responsible for enforcing the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 (the “accessibility regulations”). If you are not happy with how we respond to your complaint, contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS).

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

EPEN is committed to making its website accessible, in line with the accessibility regulations.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, because of the issues listed below.

Content that is not accessible

PDF documents. Our PDF documents are created from Word and include basic accessibility features, such as headings and a document language, but we have not fully checked them. For example, the infantile epileptic spasms syndrome guideline PDF has the wrong document title, which screen readers may read out. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.4.2 (Page titled). The full content of every EPEN document is also available as an accessible web page: use the “Read online” button. We will correct the PDF title when the guideline is next updated, and check new PDFs before we publish them.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

The accessibility regulations do not cover third-party content that we do not fund, develop or control. This includes the Google map on the About page, leaflets from Medicines for Children and the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, and other organisations’ websites we link to.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

  • checking every new page and document for accessibility before we publish it
  • publishing each EPEN document as a web page as well as a PDF
  • reviewing this statement at least once a year

Preparation of this accessibility statement

This statement was prepared on 1 November 2026. It was last reviewed on 1 November 2026.

This website was last tested on 1 November 2026 against the WCAG 2.2 AA standard. The test was carried out by EPEN. We tested every main page and both document pages with automated accessibility testing (axe), and checked keyboard use, headings, image descriptions and layouts on phones by hand.
